Dear Diane,
I love to entertain for the holidays, but my house is a little on the small side. How can I maximize the space without scrimping on ambiance?

Dear Louisa,
I whole-heartedly agree that entertaining can be the best way to celebrate the season. Think of your home as cozy instead of cramped and your guests will too! Here are a few easy ways to make your parties flow smoothly in a smaller space.
Start by clearing out your hall closets so that there will be room for guests' coats. Or designate a bedroom as the official coat room, just make sure that the bedspread is clean and the room is tidy.
Create a beverage island that is separate from the food area. This will help prevent traffic jams in one particular area and will speed up the process of offering your guests refreshments when they arrive.
To maximize your seating arrangements, think of the age of your guests. Older guests will appreciate chairs while younger children won't mind using floor pillows as seating. If you're lacking on seating space, use your dining or kitchen table areas as a buffet space to serve snacks or your main meal. Reserve chairs for only those who need them and encourage everyone else to mingle. Just remember to serve food that doesn't require cutting or is prone to spilling!
One more thing to keep in mind is to stock the bathroom with plenty of toilet paper and hand towels. Splurge on some towels in a holiday design and light a GladeĀ® candle for a continuous holiday scent.
Remember that the hostess sets the tone for any soiree, and your festive spirit will undoubtedly rub off on your guests!
Warm Regards,
Diane
